BARBORA A FERO MORONGOVCI
Barbora and František Morong are a married couple, professional teachers of traditional dance and organisers of the Dance House series run by the Dragúni association. The series is included in Slovakia’s List of Best Safeguarding Practices for Intangible Cultural Heritage.
For more than 22 years, they have continuously opened the doors of Dance Houses throughout Slovakia. During this time, this popular experiential and interactive type of event has grown into the so-called Dance House movement, which – alongside other institutionalised forms – makes a significant contribution to the exploration, promotion and development of traditional dance and musical heritage.
They regularly serve as members of expert juries and committees and participate in conferences and seminars focusing on traditional culture and art in Slovakia and abroad, including television productions. As part of the national Digital Museum project, they carried out extensive documentation of traditional dance culture in several locations across Slovakia. Their other activities include the National Dance House festival and the establishment of the FolkLab platform in 2018.
Folk & Bass Orchestra
Folk&Bass Orchestra is a Slovak music group that combines authentic folk music with contemporary electronic music and genres such as drum & bass, nu-jazz and pop. Traditional instruments – including bagpipes, fujaras, folk flutes and folk clarinet – meet synthesisers, samples, loops and a live rhythm section. The band simply calls the resulting style “folk & bass.”
