In its anniversary tenth season, mimoOs presents a new original dance performance by Barbora Janák and Katarína Čillíková. Broken Hearted (not just girls, tomboys and Viki) explores the universal experience of a breakup and asks: How can we be in a relationship without losing ourselves, while embracing the fragility of love and the possibility of its ending?

The work draws on the experience of the millennial generation, shaped by pop culture and the dance phenomena of the 2000s and 2010s. In their movement material, the choreographic duo connects contemporary dance with street and club dance, while drawing inspiration from the emotional and physical manifestations of separation from someone close – from denial and anger to acceptance and rediscovering one’s self-worth.

Music is also an essential part of Broken Hearted. It helps us navigate moments of crisis while simultaneously bringing different memories into the present. The performance takes place in a public space, where personal stories meet collective experience.

Together with a group of dancers, the creators return to the time of first loves, neighbourhood playgrounds and the hits they played repeatedly on their CDs and MP3 players.
