VOGUE
Monika Prikkelová
Vogue, or Voguing, which you may know from the TV series POSE or the documentary Paris Is Burning, was born in ballroom culture. Ballroom is a subculture created by Black trans women in New York City. It provides a safe space for queer people of colour to explore and express their identities.
In Slovakia, this culture has been introduced and developed—with respect for its roots and history—by Monika Prikkelová, known in the ballroom community as Mother Monika Velvet.
Rather than simply calling Vogue a “dance”, it may be more accurate to describe it as self-presentation. During the workshop, we will explore how to embody confidence, what confidence truly means, and how it shapes the way you present yourself. At Monika’s workshop, you will learn something about ballroom—and about yourself.
The workshop is open to everyone. No previous dance experience is required.

BIO
MONIKA PRIKKELOVÁ
Monika Prikkelová, also known as monnush, is a dancer, choreographer, and manager of her own dance agency, mondance. Her passion extends beyond the stage—she is equally fascinated by what happens backstage and enjoys working on both commercial and community-based projects.
For the past ten years, she has dedicated herself to building the ballroom subculture in Slovakia, earning recognition as the scene’s “mother” and leader. She founded the first Czech-Slovak house, Kiki House of Velvet, which raises awareness of Vogue and now operates under the name Velvet Legacy. She also organised Ball of Shame, the largest ballroom ball in Slovakia.
This year, she created the full-length cabaret production Room 22 Experience, a contemporary take on classic cabaret featuring professional dancers, singers, and an acrobat. Its distinctive musical concept combines operatic vocals with pop and techno.
With the technologically innovative light-and-dance show Tron Girls, she reached the finals of Czechoslovakia’s Got Talent in 2018. Since then, the group has performed on stages both at home and abroad.
She is also behind the clothing label Identities Brand, best known for its “Pussy Is a Feeling” collection, which carries a message of equality, inclusion, and belief in an open society.
Monika does not see herself as a rebel or provocateur—her work is rooted in quality, openness, and a touch of humour. Her goal is not to shock, but to normalise—and to create moments that allow people to pause, enjoy themselves, and have fun.
