CARRYING
Move-you, Katarína Matúšová/Lukáš Bobalik
The aim of the CARRYING workshop is to introduce the public to the creative process and the specific foundations from which the authors of the dance performance BÓJA (up the shade) drew. An open approach, a desire to explore through one’s own unique experience, and to work in a group are the key attributes. Therefore, the workshop is open to all movers — both more and less experienced dancers — as well as professionals or dance therapists.
We will focus on the topic of mental hygiene through catathymic imaginative psychotherapy interwoven with improvisation and movement. The goal of the workshop is to support the use of imagination, promote wellbeing and mental hygiene, improve physical and creative capacities, and foster the ability to work in a respectful yet diverse team. It aims to provide tools for self-expression, understanding, and communication — both inward, towards oneself, and outward, towards the world.
Everyone with a desire to explore through their unique experience, who is open to working in a group, interested in improvisation, movement, and communication, and ready to be guided through both an individual and collective experience is welcome.
The CARRYING workshop will be led by the authors of the performance, Mgr. art. Katarína Matúšová and Mgr. art. Lukáš Bobalik.
The workshop is suitable for all movement and dance enthusiasts aged 12 and over.
Workshop capacity is limited!

Lukáš Bobalik
Lukáš Bobalik is a movement artist and a graduate of the Eva Jaczová Conservatory and the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava (VŠMU), where he is currently pursuing a doctoral degree.
As a performer, he has participated in productions such as d-BODY-m, Inbetween, Endless Shift, Denníky dotyku, Niveau stable, Sen, and Ne/príbeh. He has also contributed as a movement collaborator in theatre productions such as Wuthering Heights (directed by M. Amsler, DJP Trnava) and Hamlet (directed by I. Blahut, Prešporské divadlo).
Most recently, he co-created the dance duet Bója with K. Matúšová and participated in the creation of the performance Zenith (S. Dobák, J. Lee).
Lukáš Bobalik’s work is characterized by an innovative fusion of functional movement and dance, as well as overlaps into the fields of sports and object manipulation. His artistic scope includes not only choreographic work, but also reflection on current social issues.
As part of his research, he focuses on the psychophysical readiness of dancers in contemporary art, with a particular emphasis on the sustainability of a dance career.
His own experience with physical and mental overload led him to found the platform T-O-K, which aims to develop and popularize contemporary dance in Slovakia, while also highlighting the specific needs and aspects of professional dancers’ work.
Since its founding in 2021, the collective has been behind the creation and presentation of two original productions: Timeout Burnout (M. Hriešik, L. Bobalik) and Light Work (L. Bobalik, M. Hriešik, D. Tomečková), the latter of which was included in the main program of the Slovak Dance Platform in the current season.
Katarína Matúšová
Katarína Matúšová is a dance artist, movement instructor, and educator. She has been actively involved in movement and dance since the age of nine, but began her formal education in dance at the Department of Dance Creation at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava (VŠMU), where she graduated in pedagogy of modern and contemporary dance. She continued her training through international studies and residencies in Vienna and Portugal. Thanks to a Fulbright scholarship, she spent 9 months conducting research on contemporary movement and dance forms at Movement Research in New York City.
In recent years, she has furthered her education through a movement mentorship program led by Jozef Fruček and Linda Kapetanea – Fighting Monkey Practice.
In her movement and dance practice, she explores interdisciplinary principles, bridging contemporary dance, movement, and athletic disciplines, which she enjoys combining to create a complex, universal bodily experience that fosters variability and vitality in the individual.
Katarína is the co-founder and leading figure of the artistic collective Move-you o.z., which focuses on original dance works (Ženy 2020, BÓJA up the shade) and educational training programs (Move You Camp, workshops for young professionals and the general public). As an educator, she teaches at the Bratislava Conservatory and the Eva Jaczová Dance Conservatory in Bratislava.
